5 Ways To Be More Romantic
August is Romance Awareness month—yep, news to us, too—which means you officially have three reasons to see the new movieHope Springs; one reason being, of course, the great Meryl Streep. The third?Hope Springsis about a couple whose relationship is the equivalent of old sweatpants—you know, the well-worn pair you hang around the house in and never give much thought to. In other words, it’s a movie about a couple whose relationship needs some serious dusting off—and really, whose relationship can’t use a bit more romance now and then?
In fact, according to a recent survey of more than 2,300 Americans by the romance-focused social network Zoosk, the vast majority of couples say that romance in a relationship is "very important." And yet, only 59% say they’re satisfied with the amount of romance in their lives.

So for those of us who could use a little more melting and less mediocre, here are five ways to bring romance back to your relationship, inspired byHope Springs:
1. Pucker up.As you rush out the door in the morning, you and your mate typically give each other a quick peck before parting ways, right? Well, next time, really lay one on him. Not only is it a romantic gesture, but the longer, more passionate the kiss, the more of a happy oxytocin spike you’ll get—talk about a feel-good start to the day. (Check out 10 other easy ways you can increase your oxytocin levels).
2. Plan a little surprise.Small surprises make the everyday special, says psychotherapist Barton Goldsmith, PhD, author ofEmotional Fitness for Couples. This can be anything from letting your partner sleep in on a Saturday, surprising him with a picnic-dinner on the living room floor, or leaving love notes on the fridge.
3. Get out of town.No need to max out the credit card with a European vacation, but the Zoosk surveydidreveal that 34% of people say a summer vacation delivers the most romance in a relationship. Consider a weekend stay at a bed-and-breakfast, or even booking a couple nights in a hotel a few towns away.
4. Mix things up.It’s all too easy to fall into a routine and end up in a relationship rut. The solution? Get out of your comfort zone by suggesting the two of you take a cooking class or a tennis lesson together. Feel free to apply this to the bedroom, too, by talking about a fantasy you’ve been having, trying new positions, or even spicing things up with some erotic reads.
