A Dance Off!

If you've been swept away with all the dance TV shows lately and have been trying to re-create the moves you've seen onSo You Think You Can DanceandDancing with the Stars, then here are some exercises that might get you moving. We asked Jaana Kunitz and Julia Powers, both World Champion Latin ballroom dancers, to share their favorite movements from their hit workout DVD,Core Rhythms.

Do the Paso Doble, a.k.a. dancing squat
Targets: thighs (quadriceps muscles), buns and hamstrings

Starting position: Begin with your feet parallel, toes pointed forward. Step out to the side and perform 3 squats to the left and then 3 squats to the right. Imagine this now: As you perform the squats, slightly bend forward at the waist and twist your torso, as if you are throwing a big flamenco skirt from side to side, in a figure-8 shape. To take it over the top, when you twist, cross your wrists quickly over your head. Ol©!

Do the Samba

Targets: front abs

Starting position: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, toes

pointed forward. Extend your elbows to the sides of your body so

they're shoulder height. Bend your arms so your hands are in front of

your chest. Flip the hands under and forward so your palms are facing

away from your body.

Start bending both of your knees to the timing of the samba rhythm.

Then, tuck your pelvis under and allow your chest to concave. Do this

on each beat of the music, in time
with bending your knees.

Do the Merengue, a.k.a. shake those hips!

Targets: oblique muscles (side of your body)

Starting postion: Begin in a closed stance. Raise your elbows to the sides, hands in front of your chest, palms facing down.

Start bending your knees to the rhythms of the merengue one knee at the

time, but keep your heels on the ground. Start to swing your hips while

moving to the music. As your hips swing to the right, your ribcage

extends to the left. As your hips swing to the left, your ribcage

extends to the right. Continue this move to slim your waistline.
