"Autumn Forest": a pattern in the patchwork technique without needles

Author: Elizaveta Burlaka

Autumn is a favorite season of many years. And I am no exception 🙂 The riot of autumn colors inspired me to create this picture.

Materials and tools:

  • velvet-stretch (multicolor) brown, green, olive, red, beige and their shades;
  • silk white, yellow, orange, burgundy, red, gray, green, blue, beige and their shades;
  • double-sided adhesive tape;
  • spray adhesive;
  • glue "Titan wild"
  • penocratone;
  • Hardboard;
  • scissors;
  • fabric paints;
  • designer knife;
  • a nail file or feather knife with a clean blade;
  • paint for fabric.

You can proceed 🙂

Preparation of the main picture

Base dimensions: width - 43 cm, height - 57 cm. From foam board 5 mm wide and cut fiberboard we cut sheets according to the size of the future picture. Then we apply “Titan wild” glue on the hardboard, departing from the edges of about 7 mm, and wait 1.5–2 minutes.

When the glue thickens a little, put a sheet of foam board on top, level the corners and press firmly. Leave the base under pressure until completely dry.

Preparing a sketch of a painting

The size of the sketch is large - 35 cm wide, 48.5 cm high, so we print it on two sheets of paper and “fit” it in the half pattern.

We measure on the basis of the dimensions of the fields of the mat: the top, the sides are 4 cm, the bottom is 4.5 cm. We glue the sketch onto the base with the help of glue spray. We fix the second sketch on the self-adhesive film by removing the upper protective layer or using an aerosol glue. It is not necessary to combine the halves.

Cut through all the lines of the sketch in the picture with a designer knife to a depth of about 3-4 mm.

Tip:when cutting lines on the base and filling fabric with them, hold the tool strictly perpendicular, without tilting it to the right or left.

Work on the picture

Think of combinations of fabrics.

Tip:The best way to get the desired shades of fabric is to dye it yourself. Do not strive for uniform coloration. The more color transitions will be on the details, the more interesting the finished picture will turn out.

The trunks and branches of the trees will be laid out with velvet, and everything else - with silk. You can fill the fabric in the slot of the base with a nail file. It is desirable to reduce the thickness of the nail file on the bar for sharpening knives, and then process it with fine-grained sandpaper.Instead of a nail file, you can use a special metal spatula to work in the kinusayg technique or a feather (designer) knife, after having cleaned the tip of its blade and polished the edge.

Let's start with the foliage in the treetops. For her image will need silk yellow, orange, red, burgundy colors and shades. From the second copy of the sketch on the cutting mat with a knife, cut out the paper template for each part. Removing the lower protective layer, glue the patterns to the fabric and cut out the details.

Then we remove the templates and carefully refill the parts in the slot.

We continue to gradually spread the foliage.

From time to time we add details of blue fabric to depict the sky in the gaps of the branches. Do not forget that on the one hand the trees should be lit more than on the other.

Tip:To give the foliage additional shades, you can use the technique of double overlay fabric.

To do this, you need a thin silk chiffon with a divorce of yellow, white, orange, beige, red. We spread it on the refilled part.

We find a suitable pattern by moving the fabric and glue the template on top.

We cut out a new part and fill it over the first one.

Intermediate result.

For foliage in the lower part of the tree crown we use green, olive, blue-green silk.

The space between the trunks is filled with silk of gray and gray-green colors.

For the image of the earth, we paint at least fifteen muted colors and shades of silk, combined with the colors of the foliage already laid out. For the background, we use colder ones, for the front one - warmer tones.

We lay out the trunks and branches with velvet, combining in some cases shades of red, beige and brown, in others - green, olive, beige and brown. Upon completion of the work with a hair dryer and a brush, we clear the picture of threads.

The picture is ready.
