The best way to sit at your desk at work
Can sitting up straight at your desk boost your confidence?
New study claims there are health benefits to good posture
Most of us have been told off as children for slouching at the dinner table and not standing up straight. But is seems perhaps we should have taken notice our parents advice, as a new study has discovered good posture could also make us more confident.
Scientists in the USA made the connection after conducting experiments, which ordered people to sit up straight or slump over their desks. They were then asked to list three positive or negative personal traits relating to their career and also to rate how well they would do in the future.
The results revealed those who sat in theupright posturewere morepositiveabout their career future – which they claim reinforced the link between sitting up straight and confidence.
‘It turns out that our posture can also affect how we think about ourselves,’ said Professor Richard Petty, co-author of the study and professor of psychology at Ohio State University.
