Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt's Hidden Talents
Chris Pratt Reveals His Secret Skills
Sure, he's out to save the universe in the new movieGuardians of the Galaxy—but it's his real-life domestic superpowers that have us impressed.
REDBOOK: You're filming movies andParks and Recreation; your wife, Anna Faris, stars on the TV showMom; and your son, Jack, is almost 2 years old. What's your schedule like?
Hectic. I've always been pretty busy—just with things like drinking beer. Now I'm watchingDaniel Tigervideos online and singing the ABC song. I heard someone say pretty accurately that in parenthood, there's never a dull moment, even though every moment is dull. I'm experiencing way more real and lasting highs—but they're a little fewer and farther between. [Laughs]
RB: Is there anything you discovered about yourself after becoming a dad?
Having to follow Jack around and pick up after him made me realize how often Anna had been doing that for me. It's like,Wait a minute, why is all this crap everywhere? Oh, right, someone was picking it up for me. So I'm not taking that for granted anymore.
RB: Between you and Anna, who's the funniest?
She is, by far! Jack has started to do very rudimentary art at school—maybe a few splots of paint across a piece of paper—and Anna gives them the funniest names. There's one on the refrigerator called "Everything Is Realized" and another one called "Time Is a Human Construct."
RB: On Instagram, you posted a "glorious French braid" you did on Anna. Where did you learn how?
I'd always braid Anna's hair, but I was doing it too tight and it broke in some places. Then I got a French-braid lesson from her mom, and it turns out I'm a pro. I must have been a hairstylist in a previous life.
RB: Is there a secret to getting it right? Because I'm terrible at it.
It's all about having the right equipment: hair oil, the right comb… and also an incredible amount of natural talent for braiding, which not everyone is blessed with, I'm sorry to say.
RB: Your character inGuardians of the Galaxyis kind of a cocky jerk but, underneath it, a good guy.
