How Identical Twins Teamed Up to Lose 90 Pounds ... Each!
Names:Jen Kelley and Kelly McCarthy
Hometowns:Warren, Rhode Island, and Norton Massachusetts, repectively
Identical twins Jen Kelley and Kelly McCarthy did everything together, including gain weight. They ate out constantly and regularly indulged in heavy foods like chicken Alfredo—with a side of fries, they say in, a time-tested playbook packed with stories and tips fromWomen's Health readers who dropped 20, 50, even 100 pounds! They tried to disguise their bodies with tentlike clothing to hide their weight gain.
Wake-Up Call: Spotting an unflattering Facebook picture of herself spurred Jen to take action in 2009. "I realized how awful it was to be this young and this unhealthy," she says. Jen decided to hit the gym and urged Kelly to join her.
Success Secrets: With the help of a trainer, Jen and Kelly began a workout program consisting of running, biking, and strength training, which they tackled four times a week for an hour. They hit the kitchen and broke out the slow cooker, using it to create lighter versions of old favorites, like Mexican chicken and rice. They packed protein into their diets with egg-white omelets and bananas with peanut butter. By January 2013, both had lost 70 pounds.

When Kelly developed a running injury, they took up swimming instead and lifted heavier weights during strength sessions—and shed 20 more pounds apiece. Now they're all about boot-camp class: "Throwing down ropes and hoisting barbells over your head is just awesome," says Kelly.
Both sisters say that having a workout buddy, whether it's your sibling, partner, or coworker is key to maintaining success. "I definitely attribute my support system for my weight loss," Jen says. "My sister and husband are there for me on good days and bad. If I need motication to workout or a workout buddy, they're there!
The twins even shared healthy recipes to stay on track. "I learned how to make my favorite foods the healthy way!" Kelly says. "Making my food not only saved money, but calories."
Their advice to fitness newbies? "Start small. Sometimes the biggest mistake you can make is going too hard, too fast," Jen says.
