How to repair a plastic bumper
Before proceeding with direct repair of the plastic bumper, it is necessary to clean the damaged area from excess debris. The deformed area of the bumper often has torn edges that spoil the natural geometry and smoothness of the surface. Remove all broken parts of the bumper that protrude on its surface. As a result, the size of the damaged area may increase, but without this procedure, it will not be possible to make a quality repair. For these purposes, you can use sandpaper or a regular blade. Repeat this operation with the back of the bumper. Walk over the cleaned surface with sandpaper to make it as smooth as possible.
Before filling the damaged area with any filler, it is necessary to give it rigidity. Use for this a special autofabric or fiberglass.Cut a piece of material about 2-3 cm in size larger than the repaired bumper section on all sides. Soak the fabric with special polyester resin and stick it to the back of the bumper so that a patch in the damaged area is formed. Leave the bumper in this condition for 3-4 hours.
After the fabric patch is completely dry, you can begin to fill the hole. To do this, use fiberglass automotive putty. Apply putty in even thin layers, giving each layer the opportunity to dry before applying the next layer. Having filled the repaired area with filler, level the surface with emery paper.
After the main part of the repair is completed, the bumper must be painted. To do this, use automotive paint designed for plastic surfaces. As soon as the paint is dry, apply several layers of varnish on top of it.
