Prince William & Kate Middleton visit @ Paris 18 march 2017 Invalides Hospital / mars
Prince William and Catherine’s Weekend In Paris
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Paris for an official royal tour on Friday. Hours after they met the Irish Guards in London to mark St Patrick’s day.
Still in her outfit from the St Patrick’s day celebrations Catherine and Prince William boarded a private plane headed straight to the French Capital. It’s thought that they were visiting France as “diplomatic soft power”, to help bridge the relationship between the UK and the EU following Brexit. Although royal tours overseas almost always
reflect government priorities (they’re usually organised with the
Foreign Office), this one was particularly poignant, given the fact that
it has took place so close to the triggering of Article 50. On arrival they were welcomed by President Hollande.
In the evening, the royal couple were invited to the home of the British Ambassador, Lord Llewellyn and his wife Anne, where they joined 150 guests for a fabulous gala dinner. The Duchess worse a pale blue Jenny Packham dress, her favourite designer for formal occasions.
On Saturday morning they began the day at the famous Les Invalides military hospital, where they
were introduced to war veterans and victims of the Nice and Bataclan
terror attacks. Among them was 25 year-old Jessica, who was shot seven times in
the leg, hip and back as she dined with friends at La Belle Equipe
restaurant on her birthday, during the November 2015 terrorist attack
that killed more than 100 people. William told her: ‘We think you are
very strong and very brave, you’ve made amazing progress.’
They then visited the Impressionists’ gallery at the Musée d’Orsay. The pair met whilst studying History of Art and appeared enthralled to be at the gallery, asking lots of questions.
The pair took a moment to admire the city through the face of a clock on the premises.
Later in the day, Prince William and Catherine joined local children for a spot of rugby in front of the eiffel tower. The Duchess looked very elegant for the kick around, dressed head-to-toe in Chanel.
To round off the trip, the couple attended the Six Nations rugby match between Wales and France at Stade de France. The pair who have been spotted at matches before and are
known for being passionate about rugby, seemed in good spirits at the start of the game as they cheered Wales on. The Duchess wore a striking red Carolina Herrera coat for the occasion, the club colour for Wales.
However, the mood did dip slightly during 20 minutes of extra time when France stormed to victory over Wales, who almost had the game won.
Shortly after the game the couple boarded a private jet back to London. A tweet released on behalf of the couple read: ‘What an incredible two days in Paris! Thank you to everyone who made the visit so memorable.
